BLAINE, Minn. – (April 27, 2017) – On May 12- 14 the fourth annual Lupus ‘Spiel USA will take place at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine. The event has grown in size each year and is now one of the largest annual charity curling events. In the first three years $115,000 has been raised to support Lupus research.
“The money goes to Lupus research,” said event organizer Regan Birr. “And as a Lupus patient myself, I feel that’s where the majority of focus should be; but it also goes to raising awareness of Lupus.”
With the support of events like the Lupus ‘Spiel a cure is in sight, and Lupus researchers suggest they should have a cure within ten years.
The event is set up as a pro-am, were amateur curlers are set up with a professional. Several Olympic and world medalists will participate including the greatest curler of all time, Kevin Martin, who has never participated in a pro-am curling event before.
“He’s actually considered the greatest curler of all time by his peers and by the world. He’s set all sorts of records, he’s been to the Olympics three times, he has two medals from the Olympics. He actually has a record for the most Olympic games won.”
