In 2026, Ham Lake voters will elect two candidates to the city council. The candidates are:
AL PARRANTO
About:
Councilmember Al Parranto checking in. I have served two years on the Planning and Zoning Commission and more than twelve years on the City Council, and I look forward to continuing to serve our community. I moved to Ham Lake in 2006 from Lino Lakes. As a small business owner in the real estate field, my work brought me into nearly every neighborhood in the Twin Cities, which reinforced my decision to raise my family here. After moving to Ham Lake, I became interested in local government and wanted to help maintain the safe, quiet, citizen‑oriented community that drew me here. I first served on the Planning and Zoning Commission to learn how local government operates, and was later appointed to the City Council. I currently serve as acting mayor and participate on several city committees.
Important Issues:
Working with the current council has been productive, and we share common goals for the community. Some accomplishments include keeping the Met Council out, reducing the city tax burden, adding a third fire station with trucks and equipment without raising taxes, allowing ATVs on roadways, increasing allowable garage and outbuilding sizes, allowing sheds and fences without a permit, supporting charter school growth, improving the city’s credit rating, and supporting firearm rights. With the city now debt‑free and in strong financial condition, many residents have expressed interest in maintaining Ham Lake’s current character. I also hear frequent requests for a grocery store and concerns about highly invasive camera networks. These topics will be part of my work in the upcoming term.
Goals if Elected:
In the next term, I plan to continue focusing on responsible spending during a period of rising costs and inflation. I will continue supporting policies that protect personal property rights and individual freedoms. Ham Lake’s low tax rates have encouraged residential development, and this momentum is now extending into commercial growth. With the assistance of our new city planner, we can develop a corporate invitational portfolio to help attract businesses that fit the community. Commercial development should be reviewed and approved in a way that aligns with Ham Lake’s established character. I have always been, and will continue to be, a supporter of limited government, low taxes, and individual freedom.
