SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. – For nearly 30 years, Central Park Liquors has been owned and operated by the City of Spring Lake Park. But, now the city is making some major changes.
The City Council unanimously approved a business reorganization plan for the municipal liquor store earlier this month. Large salary cuts and position changes are affecting the store’s three full-time managers.
In the plan to maximize liquor store profits, the store manager and the assistant store manager will be combined into a single position; and the director of operations will change its title to store manager, with that person’s salary being reduced by ten-thousand dollars. The council’s opinion is that the store has too many employees carrying manager titles.
The liquor store is supposed to generate non-tax revenue for the city, and needs to stay profitable to do so.
