BLAINE, Minn. – This week more than 150 kids going into the 4th grade gathered at a local fire station to spend two days learning about a wide variety of safety topics. At the 16th annual Blaine Safety Camp, the kids learned about electrical safety, bike safety, internet safety, fire safety and much more.
“Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death for kids 0 to 14 years old, and our goal is always to try to prevent some of those unintentional injuries,” says Andrea Hunt, who works as Blaine’s Crime Prevention Specialist.
As a part of the Safety Camp, the Blaine Police Department brought their two K-9 officers to do a presentation for the kids. Gunner has been with the department for about 4 years, and the newest member of the Blaine Police Department is Rex, who has been trained in criminal apprehension and searching for drugs.
At camp, the students are led by fire fighters, police officers, EMTs, and members of Blaine’s Park and Recreation department.
