Candidate Interview:
HALYN ROTH
About:
My name is Halyn Roth, and I am running for Mayor of Spring Lake Park.
I was born in Pennsylvania, raised in Kentucky, and moved to Spring Lake Park in 2020 with my husband, Josh, and our son, Adrian. Our family proudly chose Spring Lake Park to put down our roots, and we are thrilled to call this community home.
I spent a decade working as a Special Education Paraprofessional, where I gained critical experience in advocacy and collaborative problem-solving. Currently, my primary job is as a stay-at-home caregiver for my son. Since moving here, I’ve watched our city grow and change. My vision as Mayor is to lead that change with transparency, genuine inclusivity, and an unwavering focus on making Spring Lake Park a place where every resident can thrive.
Important Issues:
The most pressing issue facing Spring Lake Park is maintaining an affordable, high-quality community for young families and seniors on fixed incomes. Like many municipalities, our city is navigating rising labor costs, inflation, unfunded state mandates, and aging infrastructure. The City Council must strike a responsible balance of keeping taxes fair, fulfilling our core obligations, investing in vital infrastructure, and ensuring city staff are fairly compensated.
I won’t make promises that taxes will never rise. What I can promise is that, if elected, I will examine the city budget line-by-line, trim unnecessary expenses, and foster open, honest dialogue with residents about tough fiscal choices. Our taxpayers deserve complete accountability.
Goals if Elected:
My top priorities come down to three main goals: modernizing how we govern, investing in our families, and keeping our community affordable.
First, we need to transform the culture at City Hall. Our leaders haven’t made transparency a priority. I will ensure every resident is informed, included in decision-making, and knows exactly how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent.
Second, I want to make Spring Lake Park an even better place to raise a family. That means modernizing our public parks so children of all physical abilities can play safely together. It also means actively building a vibrant local economy by creating a resident-owned microgrant program to help new small businesses start, stay, and grow right here in our city.
Finally, we must protect Spring Lake Park’s reputation as an affordable home for young families and seniors on fixed incomes.
