About the candidate: Peggy Scott has lived in Andover for 29 years where she and her husband raised their two, now adult, children.
She is a former Realtor and small business owner.
Peggy has served as Assistant Minority leader three times and has served as Chair of the Civil Law and Data Practices Committee. She has also served as chair of the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan Governance, Legislative Commission on Data Practices and the Surrogacy Commission.
She has become the go-to legislator on Data Practices (government transparency and protecting Minnesotans’ government-held data) and Family Law issues.
She has received awards for her legislative work from the MN Grocers Association, the MN Family Council, the MN Association of Matrimonial Lawyers, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and the Legislative Evaluation Commission.
Her favorite part of her legislative role is helping constituents solve issues they are having with state government.
Peggy is a member of Transform church and likes to spend her spare time with family and friends, reading a good book and taking her golden retriever, Summer on walks.
Important Issues:
1) Out of Control Spending: Democrats, with complete control of state government, spent ALL of the taxpayers’ $18 BILLION surplus AND raised your taxes $10 BILLION. This is a 40% increase in the state’s budget in two years! This is unprecedented and is highly unsustainable.
Family budgets did not see any where near a 40% increase in their budgets. Instead, they are struggling to pay the huge inflationary prices for food, clothing, energy and housing brought on by overspending at the state and federal levels.
2) Protecting our liberties. Under complete Democrat control, our liberties have been under attack. From their attempt to remove religious protections under the MN Human Rights Act to attempting to pass the so-called ERA that would have erased the strides women have made and actually put them at risk in places of expected privacy, our liberties were under attack by extreme policy proposals.
Goals if Elected:
1) Stop the out-of-control spending that has driven us toward deficit. Families and small businesses are tapped out in their budgets. They are dealing with rising costs and inputs and the new $10 billion in taxes that the Democrats passed have not even been fully implemented!
My goal would be to roll back most of the new spending and repeal the tax increases. This will provide needed relief to our families and small businesses and also attack inflation.
2) Hold accountable, the agencies who have contributed to excessive fraud and abuse. State government agencies are great at leading people to benefits, but they are failing at compliance, monitoring, and accountability
3) Only 54% of our kids can read at grade level. Embarrassing. That is ALL kids. We need to focus on educating not indoctrinating. Also, give control of the classroom back to the teachers!
