ANOKA, Minn. – (April 12, 2017) – The Anoka County Commissioners recognized two community groups with the 2017 Public Health Awards, for leadership, community health improvement, collaboration and advocacy work.
One of the recipients of the Public Health Award was Community Dental Care for providing dental assistance to 2nd grade students in Anoka-Hennepin district schools with high poverty rates.
Community Dental works with Anoka-Hennepin staff members to provide students with proper dental health information, dental screenings, fluoride varnish, sealants, teeth cleaning, oral hygiene supply kits and referrals for further dental care if needed.
Last year, Community Dental serviced up to 2,355 children in 10 district schools.
Martin Lakers Association also received an award for its attributions in keeping Lake waters clean and safe.
Rich and Melody Lentsch worked on projects to prevent pollution, including installing rain gardens and carp barriers to improve lake water quality and fishing.
