FRIDLEY, Minn. – Twenty-three people were arrested in Fridley this week after an extensive prostitution sting operation.
The Fridley Police Department conducted a two-day sting operation at the LivInn Suites in Fridley. Four women and 19 men were cited; the women were arrested for prostitution while the men were ticketed for solicitation. A large majority of the offenses are considered a misdemeanor, although those who were repeat offenders now face a gross misdemeanor.
The sting was tactically organized by police in response to the growing prevalence of internet-based sex trade. Undercover officers used websites such as Backpage.com where sex services are frequently bought and sold.
The Fridley Police Department conducts sting operations approximately two times per year.
