BLAINE, Minn. – (June 22, 2017) – The 2017 3M Championship will take place the first weekend of August. It is a milestone year for the PGA Champions Tour event as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The event has become a favorite of many players on the tour and is rooted in giving back to the community.
“We Have been able to raise record dollars for charity, for Allina Hospitals and their clinics, that’s very important to us, it’s been a big, big part of our goal from day one. This was about charity, about giving back into the community, not just bringing the greatest golfers in the world here over 50, it was also about making this community event a fun tournament to be at and something that really delivers back to the community,” said executive director Hollis Cavner.
The field for the tournament is again shaping up to be one of the best of the year.
Jennifer Hines, tournament director of the 3M Championship says: “Some other things to look forward to this year, we have got exciting field, we have got 20 of the 25 top money winners right now.”
The greats of golf including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino and more will again complete in a special during the tournament. With a strong history the future of the 3M Championship could have a much different look.
“Yes we have requested the PGA to our event, yes we are on the list. Does it have a chance? Yes, it has a chance,” said Cavner.
Cavners’ Pro Links Sports management company recently received a new event on the Champions Tour that will be held in South Dakota starting next year. Meaning a new PGA Tour event could be coming to Blaine as early as 2018. But, with no announcement by the PGA Commissioner all parties are waiting to see what the future will hold.
