BLAINE, Minn. — If 2013 3M Championship has a theme it might be something to do with making history. Hollis Cavner, executive director of the 3M Championship announced this week the “for the first time in history” a group of women will be a part of the event. Annika Sorenstam, Nancy Lopez, and Pat Bradley will form one of the three teams that will compete in the popular Greats of Golf Challenge. The women’s team will be captained by fan favorite and golf legend Arnold Palmer.
The regular tournament is also shaping up to be on the best in years and already has a very strong field. Champions Tour rookies Rocco Mediate, Colin Montgomerie, and Steve Elkington are all scheduled to compete against returning favorites including: Tom Lehman, Nick Price, Fred Funk, and Fred Couples.General admission will once again be free for all spectators in 2013. The tournament, which surpassed $20 million in charitable giving last year, will donate another $1.3 million this year to Allina Health.
With a great field and an exciting new twist to the Greats of Golf event the 2013 3M Championship will once again be one of the most successful events on the Champions Tour.
