(BLAINE) – The world’s best golfers will not spend Independence Day weekend in the Twin Cities next summer, and some may skip the state altogether.
The PGA Tour released its schedule for 2020, and it shows the 3M Open on the calendar for July 23-26 at TPC Twin Cities.
This is three weeks later than the inaugural event earlier this summer, which was won by first-time winner Matthew Wolff. It attracted many of the highest-ranked golfers in the world despite its relative proximity on the schedule to the British Open in Ireland two weeks later.
The main conflict with the 2020 date is the start of the Tokyo Summer Olympics on July 24. Golf became an Olympic sport in 2016, and it’s very possible many of the top athletes will either be in Japan or headed that way once the festivities in Blaine get under way.
