49TH ANNUAL BLAINE FESTIVAL – JUNE 22-24

BLAINE, Minn – (June 14, 2018) – The 2018 Blaine Festival will take place at Aquatore Park in Blaine on June 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Organizers of the long running summer festival believe they have created an event with something for everyone to enjoy.

“Lots of family fun…live music all weekend long,” said Kat Smithe from the Blaine Festival committee.

Kat’s favorite event was held for the first time last year.

“My favorite event currently is the pig races…we have ten races of five little piggies,” said Smithe. You can cheer on Albert Einswine and Hammy Davis Jr. the second in person on Sunday afternoon.

There is also lots of food to enjoy and rides to test your limits.

“The carnival [will be] bringing three new rides so it will be bigger and better than before. We have a food court where there is all kind of food you can munch on,” said Smithe.

85 vendors will be set up if you want to spend some time shopping in the park. A civic tent will also be on site with information from many local non-profits. One event not held at the park is the annual parade. This year will be a record breaking year.

“We have roughly 100 units comings for the parade. This year we are really lucky we have 11 bands in the parade, so that’s quite the record over previous years,” said Smithe.

The Blaine Festival might only take place over a three day stretch in June but they are active all year round.

“We were fortunate several years ago to take over some charitable gaming…we use those funds to primarily to fund the festival. However, we support a lot of local non-profits like Cars for Neighbors and Stepping Stone [Emergency Housing] with those funds as well. I feel that if we are out and involved in the community the community is more likely to show up at the festival,” said Smithe.

Next year the Blaine Festival will celebrate a milestone, and that already has Kat looking ahead.

“This is our 49th year so next year will be the big 5-0 and I’ve already started coming up with ideas for that,” said Smithe.
