This new addition comes complete with large rooms and modern amenities like smart TVs, IPod docks, and Wi-Fi. Everything was built with a family focused design. “I think we’re really being able to provide our families an opportunity to be together, to not be separated, in a place that is providing the best possible care for both,” said Saul. The Mother Baby Center at Mercy wants to make sure the new mothers get the best experience possible. Through the Mother Baby Center, mothers have access to acupuncture and massage services. “We feel like if Mom is healthy then the whole family is healthy. If a mom is well, then the whole family is well. That’s what we’re trying to do here is really promote a sense of family wellness,” said Saul.
Throughout the building their are cool and calming colors, artwork, and natural light to bring a sense of tranquility and peace during a stressful time. The staff at Mercy Hospital can benefit from having a state of the art facility as well. Here they believe the quality of care they are able to give will rise even higher. “I think that our doctors and nurses are really great and really top notch and really could take care of patients anywhere but when you add talented doctors and nurses and other staff and give them a facility where operating rooms are spacious and the equipment that we have is state of the art. The monitoring systems for babies, the security systems for mom and baby, all of those things together take providers of care that were already top notch and elevates their care to levels that many places could only hope to achieve,” said Saul.
The motto of the Mother Baby Center at Mercy is: “A great place to have a baby. A great place to be a baby.” This center expects to have 3,500 deliveries a year. The babies and families that come through here have a lot to look forward to. “In addition to the beautiful surroundings we really care about the quality of care we’re providing to our patients and families and they’ll be able to feel that from the minute they walk through the door how special this place is in that regard,” said Saul.
The doors will open for the first birth on July 27, and then Allina Health will begin the process of closing the birthing center at Unity Hospital and moving all births to Mercy.
