LINO LAKES, Minn. – (Oct. 1, 2015) – A program designed to fight drug and alcohol use among teens in middle school and high school is yielding positive results in the St. Francis and Centennial School Districts. The ongoing Chemical Health Initiative is building awareness with students and parents about the dangers of drug and alcohol use.
The initiative is funded by an Anoka County Children and Family Council School District Partnership Grant. The focus is on preventing the use of gateway drugs and urges parents to talk to children early and often about their dangers. As part of the initiative students and staff produced a series of videos that contain prevention messages including real life experiences. A licensed alcohol and drug counselor will speak at an event for parents and students about adolescent drug and alcohol use at a special event on October 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Middle School.
