“We have come together to form a nonprofit, a 501(c)3 to raise money and funds and awareness for other nonprofits,” said Sonja Kloiber. They call themselves TPC Rose. Every year since their founding in 2008, they have picked one local charity to focus on. This charity becomes the beneficiary of all the fundraising profits they have that year. Then, at the end of the year, they gather together for a check presentation, where they chosen charity gets to finally see the result of a year’s worth of fundraising. Last year, they gave Youth First Community of Promise $100,000. This year’s beneficiary was Tamarisk, and the donation to Tamarisk was going to be larger than last year’s donation. At that point there was not a lot of support out there. Even hospice was just barely beginning,” Tamarisk focuses on the non-medical needs of those living with a terminal illness and their families. This can be simply companionship, or a break for a care giver, or basic help around the house. This year, they’ve helped 66 families navigate the struggles of terminal illness, but their legacy is far greater than that. Since they began 22 years ago, they have helped more than 1,000 families. “Part of the reason we’re founded is we know families that are dealing with certain various illnesses – ALS, Huntington’s, or Parkinson’s – those are a years long journey where the family could use support for much longer than just that six months or less where hospice is able to come in,” said Haus. TPC Rose has met a lot of non-profits through the years, but Kloiber says that the work of Tamarisk was different than what they’ve seen before. “I think the group really resonated with their group because so many women in our group last year have been affected either with a family member or very close friend passing away of living with a terminal illness,” said Kloiber. And now, thanks to TPC Rose, and their fundraising, Tamarisk will have more resources to help them with their mission. “Tonight we are really excited to be able to present Tamarisk with a check for $125,000,” said Kloiber. This is the largest single donation ever made by TPC Rose, and the largest donation that Tamarisk has ever received. Once you’ve seen someone struggle with facing the end of their life, it’s easy to understand how Tamarisk can benefit families. And Haus says that knowing how the team of 43 volunteers is making a difference in lives every single day makes it even easier. “I absolutely love hearing all of the stories about the things all our volunteers do,” sais Haus. “They move me constantly with the consistent support and their sensitivity to what the family needs, and what that patient can handle or not, they go above and beyond all the time to do things that I think are even more than a friend or family member would.”
