ANOKA, Minn. – (Jan. 14, 2016) – Minnesota Senate District 35 held a special primary election this week. Two Republicans faced off in the primary, and former State Representative Jim Abeler defeated Republican-endorsed Andy Aplikowski.
Jim Abeler: 60.93%
Andy Aplikowski: 39.07%
Abeler will advance to the special election on February 9 where he will face off against Democrat Roger Johnson.
This seat needs a special election because it was held by Branden Peterson, but he resigned from it last fall. Like all of the State Senate seats, this one will be on the ballot again in November.
District 35 covers Anoka, Ramsey, Andover, and part of Coon Rapids.
