Commissioner Mandy Meisner proposed an amendment to the rules that would allow for public comment at the beginning of board meetings – a practice common at city councils.
Currently, the board does not allow for public comment at their meetings, but does allow comment in the committees.
“In terms of committees, I think that’s a good thing, obviously, to have public engagement in our committees. The only issue I really have with that is that the full board is never at one committee, so an opportunity to present an issue to the full board, I think, is really important,” said Meisner, Anoka County Board of Commissioners, District 4.
The voted down the proposal, 4 to 2, with many of the commissioners agreeing to bring up this idea again in a workshop once the seventh commissioner takes his or her seat next month.
