(PRESS RELEASE) – Anoka County Commissioner Scott Schulte was elected 2019 president of the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) at the organization’s Annual Conference, held Dec. 2-4 in Bloomington.
Schulte served as second vice president for AMC in 2017 and was first vice president in 2018. As president of AMC, Schulte will preside over board meetings, be the primary spokesperson for the association and represent AMC at both state and nationwide meetings. Schulte will work with the AMC Board of Directors, which includes county commissioners from across the state.
“I’ve learned a tremendous amount during my time as second vice president and first vice president of AMC, and I’m excited to step into this new leadership role,” Schulte said. “County government is interesting, dynamic, and it faces challenges in the upcoming years. We’re always looking for innovative ways to serve our aging population, improve infrastructure and meet state mandates. I’m ready to work with my fellow AMC members to address all those challenges — and more.”
Schulte is chair of the Anoka County Transportation Committee and the county’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority. He is vice chair of the county’s Information Technology, Regional Railroad Authority and Public Safety committees. He is a member of the county’s Capital Improvements Committee, Joint Law Enforcement Council, and the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board. Schulte represents Anoka County’s District 7, which includes portions of Andover, Anoka, and Coon Rapids.
AMC has been serving Minnesota’s 87 counties since 1909. AMC is a voluntary statewide organization that assists the state’s 87 counties in providing effective county governance to the people of Minnesota. The association works closely with the legislative and administrative branches of government in seeing that legislation and policies favorable to counties are enacted. In addition, the association provides educational programs, training, research and communications for county officials.
