(ANOKA) — While there are relatively few municipalities in the United States that record instances of stolen snowmobiles, Anoka County has the distinction of one of the highest rates in the country.
According to a report released by the National Insurance Crime Bureau on February 5, Anoka County is tied with a community in Alaska for the third-most snowmobile thefts between 2015 and 2017.
The report shows 23 reported thefts in the county in that time period. Anchorage, Alaska lead the way with twice as many, while Fairbanks had two fewer at 44.
The majority of thefts happened in Alaska, Washington, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota.
Of the more than 1,500 total thefts in the two-year period, Minnesota accounted for one of out every five (314 total).
States as far south as Texas and New Mexico had reported snowmobile thefts.
