“We talk about layering our mitigation strategy and one of our strategies is to test people in the community,” said Cindy Hiltz, the district’s director of nursing. “MDH already has these testing sites set up for us in the community, and some families might not realize it was okay to bring children.” She was referring, specifically, to the community testing site at the Anoka Armory, which should continue until at least mid-March.
Hiltz said the state provides equipment and funding to test all school employees every two weeks. She said that helps identify any asymptomatic community members and gives a clearer picture of how the virus has impacted each community.
“COVID has been difficult,” said Hiltz. “Things keep changing, we keep finding out new pieces about the virus, there’s new variants that show up. Flexibility now is extremely important.”
