ANOKA, Minn. – (July 30, 2015) – The Anoka-Hennepin School District has been cleared of wrong-doing during the 2011 election. This week the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled that the district was not promoting their tax levy referendums with the brochures they sent to voters.
The Minnesota Voters Alliance had brought attention to the school district-funded brochure that was created to inform the public about three levy questions. The group claimed that the piece of literature should not have cost $15,000 of taxpayers’ money because the information presented had an apparent bias supporting the tax initiatives of the school district.
However, the Appeals Court agreed with a lower court ruling from last year, stating that the brochure was informative and not promoting the ballot questions.
