LINO LAKES – (Nov. 1, 2022) – A November heat wave had North Metro residents spending plenty of time outside this week. That was especially true at local golf courses.
“Our tee sheet is completely booked out today,” said Alivya Doll, who works at Chomonix Golf Course in Lino Lakes. “It’s a very odd thing for November 1st.”
November golf in Minnesota is not exactly a common event.
“Very, very rare,” Doll said. “There should be snow on the ground.”
But this week, balmy temps in the 60s and 70s had people flocking to the Chomonix.
“We have tee times from 10:00 until 3:50 and there is only 1 spot that’s wide open.”
“It’s very rare. Normally the end of October is about as far as you get, said Chomonix employee Brian Belair… “The last time I played on November 1st it was on another course and it was about 38 degrees. No more of that. This is beautiful.”
‘PHENOMENAL’ CONDITIONS FOR GOLF
St. Paul’s Bill Stokes plays three to four times a week. Stokes was thrilled to be golfing in a month where ice and snow are usually the norm.
“The leaves are gone,” Stokes said. “No leaves on the course. Beautiful. Green grass. On November 1st green grass. Unbelievable. “
Who could have imagined that early November would provide some of the top golf weather this year? Instead of wind chill, there was zero wind. Stokes and his pals were clearly soaking up this postcard-like day.
“Excellent shape,” Stokes said. “Greens are perfect. Fairways as you can see are great. The roughs cut down.”
“The course is in phenomenal condition right now and it’s been just a pleasure to play,” Belair said. “The leaves are all blown off the course and it’s really, really green and nice.”
Cooler temps are coming to the north metro area on Friday. As a result, Chomonix is closing Saturday for the season.
