BLAINE, Minn. – (Aug. 24, 2017) – With the new school year just days away, there will be an increase of bus and pedestrian traffic seen across the state. Parents are encouraged to teach new bus riders safety tips. Safe Kids Worldwide recommends teaching children to stand back at least three steps from the curb; wait for the bus to come to complete stop; and if crossing the street is necessary, make eye contact with the bus driver and cross at least 5 steps in front of the bus.
As a driver, be alert for stopping buses and children at bus stops. Slow down and stop if the bus is flashing red or yellow lights, and obey the school speed limits that will be going back into effect.
