BLAINE, Minn. – (Jan. 28, 2016) – As the Blaine Community Center Taskforce continues their work before a referendum on the issue appears on the November ballot, they are now prepared to meet with the YMCA about partnering on the proposed facility. The task force is studying all available options before making a recommendation to the city council.
The first proposal from an architectural firm is a nearly 140,000 square foot building built next to city hall at a cost of $34 million. The facility would include two pools, two basketball courts, a fitness area, meeting and office space and a new senior center.
The task force will meet with the YMCA officials to determine if a shared space would be in the best interest of the residents. There are still many decisions and revision that will be made to any proposal before it heads to the city council and eventually to Blaine voters this fall.
