BLAINE, Minn. – (June 9, 2016) – Last month, a Blaine man who was just getting his mail was killed by a drunk driver. While his family and his neighborhood are dealing with their loss, this tragedy has brought another conversation to light. Neighbors say that 119th Avenue sees unsafe drivers all the time.
Whether it is speeding or inattentive driving, many in the neighborhood want to finds ways to reduce speeds and reduce the amount of cars on their residential streets.
The city is proposing a change. Blaine is considering closing 119th Avenue in the area of London Street for 90 days and see how that would impact traffic.
They will be holding a public hearing to hear from the neighborhood about the plan. City Manager Clark Arneson anticipates hearing about safety improvement related to the street and impact statements from people in the neighborhood.
“There are 2,000 trips per day on that roadway that will go someplace if that road is not connected,” said Arneson.
Anyone interested in sharing their opinion is encouraged to attend the public hearing:
