BLAINE, Minn. – (March 22, 2018) – After more than three years of sitting vacant, development could be coming to the Kmart site in southern Blaine. Xperience Fitness has publicly announced that location as the site of a new gym that will soon be coming to Blaine. However, city officials say that nothing has been approved by council or even submitted to the city for review of the development. Officials say they have seen tentative concept plans for that site that include the gym.
Blaine’s Toys R Us is back on the chopping block. The toy company has announced its plans to liquidate all inventory in all of its US stores. There are discussions to potentially combine its top 200 performing stores with Canadian operations to keep it open. It is unclear if the Blaine store could be one of those. Company reps says that they expect store closing sales to begin very soon.
With spring upon us, road construction is soon to be back in full swing. Construction on 105th Ave. near the National Sports Center will be starting up shortly, with the goal of having the roadway complete before the Schwan’s USA Cup in July. The soccer tournament typically brings more than 1,000 youth soccer teams from around the world to the city.
