“We’re really excited to see what kind of treasures we might find,” said Robyn Berg of Coon Rapids.
Early May is when bargain hunters flock to Blaine and go into “shop til you drop” mode.
Berg came from Coon Rapids with her husband and two dogs – hoping to sniff out some good deals.
“We brought along our Belgian Malinois,” Berg said. “This here is Kylo and the little guy that is tearing apart his stuffed animal is Kota Bear.”
For Berg, this has become an annual tradition.
“We do garage sales every year,” Berg said. “My husband predominantly comes over here. He drug me out this morning so I’m excited to see what we’re able to find.”
Yard sale hub
These garage sales are another sign of spring and there are plenty to choose from in the blocks that make up Johnsville.
Blaine’s Grace Prairie and her friends Kate and Molly use these yard sales as a way to reconnect.
“We often do this together,” Prairie said. “We did this in college and we just graduated so we thought we would get back together and come out to the garage sales.”
The troika enjoys the house hopping and also trying to find good stuff for a cheap price.
“I just got a Gucci watch,” Prairie said. “$10. Can’t beat it.”
Because of the amount of choices, Blaine has become a yard sale hub.
“I would say definitely,” Berg said. “Blaine has got a great community of citizens that have a variety. You have anywhere from young parents that are trying to sell kids stuff so you can upcycle a little bit of your kids stuff all the way down to the experienced seniors that have just a variety of different things that you can enjoy and experience.”
“There’s a lot of neighborhoods where I live,” Prairie said. “I’m always looking for the next garage sale on the weekends and we came out early to get the best deals.”
The weather is expected to cooperate with this garage sale weekend as there is no rain in the forecast.
