(ANOKA) – An Anoka County judge sent a Blaine man to prison for perhaps the rest of his life after he pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife after she filed for divorce.
Forty-eight-year-old Matthew Jansen told authorities he had shot and killed his wife at his home on 95th Avenue North when he called 911 in February 2019.
In a criminal complaint, officers wrote that when they got to the home that night, they found the body of 46-year-old Mary Jo Janesen. Jansen had been shot multiple times and she was dead. Also in the criminal complaint was information about divorce proceedings that Mrs. Hansen had initiated against her husband in November 2018, and he referenced the possible divorce as they were arresting him at the home.
Deputies also recovered a Smith and Wesson .44 handgun at the scene.
In March, Jansen pleaded guilty to a count of 2nd degree murder.
