(BLAINE) – Blaine City Council approved a sweeping plan for street reconstruction projects for 2019 and 2020 at its meeting on February 21.
The plan calls for reconstruction on portions of the following streets: Quail Creek Parkway, Radisson Road, Ulysses Street, Aberdeen Street, Tournament Players Parkway, Baltimore Street, Flanders Street, Rice Creek Parkway, Xylite Street, 91st Avenue, Jamestown Street, 94th Lane, and Harpers Court.
A handful of property owners with affected properties protested and challenged the assessments the city would issue in relation to these projects.
Mayor Tom Ryan said he’s never seen such an ambitious list of projects in his three decades of city leadership.
“I think we’re to a point where you throw your hands in the air,” said Mayor Ryan during the council meeting. He said many of the roads in Blaine are several decades old, with some as old as 50 years old.
“(Those roads) have turned to crumbs,” he said. “We’re at a point where we had to pick up a portion of them. We have 250 miles of roads in Blaine.”
The council will hear proposals and bids for the projects as the months roll on.
