“[We are] transitioning to moving some of our programming virtually,” said Nate Monahan, recreation manager with Blaine parks. And then just coming out with some new, different ideas for people to stay busy and active when they are at home.”
They are calling it Rec at Home, and one of the regular offerings will be tours of some of the city’s sixty-five parks.
The first video tour features Pioneer park. It is the largest park in the city with 100 acres of land and as well as paved and woodchipped trails.
Monahan is planning on giving tours and histories of some of the larger parks in the city.
“We are looking to highlight parks that are passive, but have a lot of trails where people can practice good social distancing, and we have plenty of those parks within our park system.”
Other parks and recreation staff are creating other programs, sharing ideas for how to have fun in your driveway or on a trail.
“It’s kind learning on the fly,” said Monahan. “There are still things out there we can do, it’s just a new way of doing things.”
Classes that can happen online are still happening, and those range from film lectures to soccer classes to dance camps.
