(BLAINE) – It will be the end of an era on the Blaine City Council when a new mayor is seated in January. After 34 years, Mayor Tom Ryan is not running for re-election. But plans are in the works to honor his years of service.
A proposal to rename Town Square Park passed the Parks Board and will go to the Blaine City Council where approval is expected. It would be known as Tom Ryan Park. That includes the Veterans Memorial area. The Mayor says that while he is not running again, he’s not going anywhere and will continue to work on behalf of veterans and seniors. Those are two groups that are close to his heart.
Longtime Council Member Dick Swanson is also leaving at the end of the term. Between him and Mayor Ryan, there’s more than 50 years of experience in city leadership.
