BLAINE, Minn. – (June 5, 2015) – A well deserved applause was given to the third grade national team champions who participated in the Continental Math League. There were 13 students at the DaVinci Academy in Blaine who answered every question right in the competition. “They were tough math questions” said third grader Arushi Singh.
The students were honored in a ceremony at the school in front of family and friends. Out of 374 participating teams, the third graders were national champions. School Director Terry Moffatt told North Metro TV that the school has participated in the math program for the last three years.
The students entered on their own will and did a lot of prop work at home in preparation for the difficult math questions. “They stay after school to take the tests…they are really difficult” said Moffatt.
The DaVinci Academy has small class sizes and a focus on arts and sciences. Singh loves math and gave insight into the questions she answered for the award. “I like the way the questions challenged you…it was a mixture of everything…we used division and multiplication the most” said Singh.
For all the hard work she certainly has big goals. This special third grader will be attending a Mars Academy program this summer to further her knowledge in space exploration. “Right now I want to become a rocket scientist.”
