BLAINE, Minn. – (Jan. 25, 2018) – Blaine is losing another big box business. After the recent closures of Gander Mountain and Best Buy, this week it was announced that Toys “R” Us in Blaine will be closing in February.
The Blaine location joins three other Minnesota locations and is part of a nationwide closure of 182 Toy “R” Us stores. Toys “R” Us is undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings with more than $5 billion in debt.
Toys “R” Us has seen its market share crash over the last decade as Amazon and other online retailers have eroded its once stronghold on the retail toy market. After the closings, Minnesota will still have four Toys “R” Us locations including one in Maple Grove.
