BLAINE – (May 21, 2020) – Blaine announced this week that the city is cancelling all in person park and recreation activities through August. The city made the decision while considering the financial impact of hiring workers & running programs while also not knowing if the program can happen safely.
Blaine will be issuing full refunds for all the cancelled programming.
The city has also been talking about what this summer is going to look like for Lakeside Commons Beach. The beach costs the city about $52,000 a year to operate.
It was originally scheduled to open on May 29, but that won’t happen.
Right now the city says that the beach will remain closed until large gatherings of more than 250 people at non-essential locations, like a beach, are allowed. Then the Blaine City Council will need to determine if the city can and should open the beach this summer.
