BLAINE, Minn – (June 29, 2017) – Blaine’s Chief of Police is getting ready to say goodbye. After nearly three decades in the city, he has worked as a provisional detective, street sergeant, lieutenant, firearms instructor and background investigator.
“I started in 1990, was hired on as patrol officer,” said Police Chief Chris Olson of the Blaine Police Department. “In 2008, after Dave Johnson retired, I was given the position of police chief.”
He says that throughout his years, he has enjoyed meeting and helping people throughout the community. He’s also seen the community change in many ways.
“We are now the biggest city in Anoka County and the department of city employees has grown,” Olson said. ” We have more calls for service [and] more demands.”
Now, he is getting ready to move on.
“There’s nothing driving me out [or] drawing me out,” Olson said. “[It’s] just an opportunity move on … and try something potentially different.”
Olson’s last day will be on June 30 and the city of Blaine has hired a search firm to help find his replacement.
