LINO LAKES, Minn. – (Aug. 11, 2016) – Blue Heron Days in Lino Lakes will take place on August 19, 20 and 21. Blue Heron Days started in 2004 and is named after the blue heron rookery in Lino Lakes, the second largest blue heron rookery in Minnesota.
Many crowd pleasing events are back again this year including the annual parade down Lake Drive, the Officer Shawn Silvera memorial run, two street dances, a movie in the park, a kids fun zone with inflatables, a petting zoo and penny carnival.
In addition to all the annual events the organizers also look to add new events each year.
“Every year we try to add something different,” said Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department’s Brian Hronski. “This year we’re actually having an adult softball tournament for the Blue Heron Days Festival that will be in Sunrise Park so looking forward to that. We have a number of local softball teams over at the Legion, selling concessions over there.”
Blue Heron Days is an important event for the city of Lino Lakes and city staff hope it helps bring the community together.
“I think all community events hold a special place in the community’s eyes. I think if you didn’t have it, it’d be pretty noticeable that your city didn’t have one so I think it just brings the community together. That’s what all city celebrations do and I just think it’s something fun to look forward to for the residents of Lino Lakes and surrounding communities to come together,” said Hronkski.
