ANOKA, Minn. – A new organization in Anoka County is beginning to tackle the problem of homeless youth. This growing problem is leading children to sleep in Port-A-Potties, playgrounds, dumpsters, abandoned buildings, tents, cars and 24-hour stores. Hope 4 Youth knows that they won’t be able to cure homelessness, but they do hope to be able to give youth a safe place to go for a few hours everyday. A place where they can take a shower, wash their clothes, search for employment, eat a meal, or even just do their homework. The organization was founded just twelve weeks ago, and now they are getting ready to open their doors to children and young adults coming from all walks of life.
They are looking for more volunteers to help them in their mission. They are looking for people who want to donate time, materials and money. Whether it be providing a meal to the youth for a night, volunteering to work with the youth, or helping pack up duffle bag filled with essential items the kids will need, regardless of where they spend the night.
Eventually, they would like to start a host program that would place some of the youth in homes, but for now Hope 4 Youth says that they will start by providing a few safe hours every day.
Hope 4 Youth will be holding an open house for the community on March 3, from 1-5pm, and then opening to youth on March 4.
