BLAINE – (Feb. 23, 2023) – The epic three-day snow event that crippled parts of Minnesota definitely had an impact on the North Metro.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that as of Thursday morning, almost 14 inches of snow had fallen on Oak Grove in northern Anoka County.
Blaine was also hit hard.
According to Blaine’s website, city buildings were closed on Wednesday and Thursday. That includes Blaine City Hall, Public Works, and the Mary Ann Young Center.
Blaine’s fleet of snow plows began clearing roads on Wednesday at 4 a.m. Plow response throughout this three-phase storm will depend on current weather conditions.
Blaine is keeping plows on the roads 24/7 as drivers work staggered shifts so they can take mandated breaks.

If necessary, snow plows will be used to escort first responders should they have trouble getting to certain parts of the city. Crews will not clear sidewalks and trails until after the storm is finished.
Many Blaine businesses and offices closed early or shut down for part of this week.
Walters Recycling and Refuse was closed on Thursday. Garbage and recycle collection will be delayed by one day for residents who have Thursday or Friday pick-up.
The Anoka-Hennepin School District canceled classes on Wednesday and Thursday, and Blaine’s City Council meeting on Wednesday was conducted virtually instead of in person.
Unless you absolutely have to travel, MnDOT is advising everyone to stay off the roads.
