(MINNEPOLIS) – An organization that helps North Metro families through tough times says it needs help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Community Emergency Assistance Program, or CEAP, officials say the virus and the associated shutdown of businesses and lay-offs create new challenges when it comes to getting food to families who need it through programs like Meals on Wheels.
Meals on Wheels drivers delivered meals for two weeks to 1,600 families at a cost of $20,000. Organization leaders say the need is greater because of financial uncertainty for many families, and the virus has impacted the group's efforts in unexpected ways.
"We've already seen a dip on our donations but even as if you figure a church that does food donations if they close their doors we no longer get that food donation," said Stephanie Lehman, CEAP Director of Operations. "So we have to be able to purchase that food. There is food out there available through the food banks, but that's still food that we purchased."
CEAP workers know this is a tough time to ask for financial help, but they say even a little will make a difference.
