(CIRCLE PINES) – Community Service Officer Georgia Carlson said she both missed her mentoring program at Golden Lake Elementary School and knew the Centennial Lakes Police Department has a popular Facebook page, and that provided her an opportunity to reach out.
“We want to build relationships,” said Officer Carlson. “We’re good listeners and we can rely on (citizens) and they can rely on us.”
Carlson recently posted a Facebook video where she read two children’s books, and the response has been pretty big: nearly 2,000 views and dozens of likes and comments.
“Giving parents like 15 minutes’ break and read two books–that seemed like a good idea,” she said. “We can read books and be silly and friendly and I thin that they enjoy that.”
She hopes to make more videos–perhaps offering tours of the police station or her squad–to keep people engaged.
“When things go back to normal, we want to still be able to build on that relationship,” she said.
