CIRCLE PINES, Minn. (August 8, 2013) — This week, 110 4th grade students gathered at Centennial Middle School for a different kind of education. Merging learning and fun, the 20th annual Centennial Safety Camp taught students ways to stay safe no matter where they are or what they are doing.
The event is put on by the Centennial Fire District, Lino Lakes Police Department, Centennial Lakes Police Department, Lexington Fire Department, and the Lino Lakes Parks Department. Employees of these departments do the majority of the teaching in their area of expertise.
“A lot of these types of things are things that they really don’t learn that much in school,” said Centennial Deputy Chief Glen Olson.
The children learned about electrical safety, bike safety, fire safety, personal safety, and more. At the end of the day, the campers received a Safety Camp diploma and a medal for taking part in the event.
