LINO LAKES, Minn. – (March, 17, 2016) – A local student’s love of geography might be rewarded with a trip to the nations capital. Centennial Middle School sixth grader, Theo Carlson, is a semi-finalist in the 2016 Minnesota State Geography Bee and will compete April 1 at St. Cloud State University for a chance to be a national finalist.
The top 100 scoring students in the state will compete for the chance to go to the finals held in Washington, D.C. where the champion will win a $50,000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society as well as a trip to Alaska to see Glacier Bay National Park.
The geography bee is in it’s 28th year and bees were held in schools with fourth through eight grade students competing to determine school champions. Each year thousands of students in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee in a contest designed to inspire students to be curious about the world.
Carlson will competing to be Minnesota state champion.
