ANOKA, Minn. (Oct. 25, 2013) – Election Day will soon be upon us. Over the next few weeks, Anoka County residents will be making their voting decisions for the 2013 Municipal and School District Elections. New voting machines will be installed at the precincts to make this process much simpler for all parties involved. “We bought new equipment because the last equipment we bought was in 1999…there were several units that just didn’t work anymore” said Anoka County Elections Manager Cindy Reichert.
The new equipment may not seem like much of a time-saver to people at the polls; Cindy tells us there are several administrative benefits, as well as some added perks for absentee voters. “One advantage with the new system is that we will be able to process absentee ballots using what we call a central count machine…we expect to be able to count most of our absentee ballots in about a day rather than five” Reichert explained.
Anoka County hopes the new equipment will encourage voters to get to the polls this election season. As always, election judges will be on-hand, should problems arise. Anoka County is offering public demonstration by request up until Election Day. To learn more about the new equipment and voting in Anoka County click here.
