BLAINE, Minn. – (Nov. 10, 2016) – A man and woman have been charged on suspicion of murder of a 21-month-old boy in Blaine. On Nov. 8, the Blaine Police Department was dispatched to the Blaine Medical Center due to an unresponsive child. The child was declared dead at the scene. The child was brought to the Blaine Medical Center by his mother, Heydi Jacqueline Aguilera-Bustillo who initially was said to be cooperating with authorities, but after her statements did not line up with the evidence she was arrested.
Augilera-Bustillo’s boyfriend was also sought, this led to a manhunt for Nelson Geovanny Soto-Lopez who had fled the state who the 5-year-old sister of the victim. Soto-Lopez hired an individual to provide transportation to Kansas City, MO. The individual was unaware of Soto-Lopez’s alleged crimes or that he was wanted by police. The driver brought Soto-Lopez and the girl to Kansas City and Soto-Lopez connected with his father and step-mother who were also unaware of his alleged crimes.
Police were able to contact the driver for information and law enforcement agencies in Missouri were contacted. A Missouri State Police Officer spotted the suspects vehicle and the suspect and took Soto-Lopez into custody. Aguilera-Bustillo has been charged with second degree manslaughter, aiding an offender, and child endangerment. Soto-Lopez was charged with second-degree murder.
