FRIDLEY, Minn. – (April 4, 2020) – Nationwide, there is a pressing shortage of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers, particularly face masks.
The Association of Minnesota Chinese Physicians donated 2000 manufactured face masks to Mercy Hospital – Unity Campus this week. Dr. Lucy Yun Lu is a member of the association, and her hometown is Wuhan. She says experiences from Wuhan are showing the rest of the world how to stay safe.
The Association of Minnesota Chinese Physicians has about 200 members, and is supported by volunteers in their efforts. At Mercy Hospital, staff says these will go to good use.
“We do what we do because this is what we love to do,” said Sarah Holmgren, patient care manager, Emergency Department, Mercy Hospital – Unity Campus. “And to know that the community appreciates that and is worried about us and cares about us and wants us to be safe is very humbling.”
The 2,000 masks were delivered to the Emergency Department. The Association of Minnesota Chinese Physicians has been making similar deliveries to several other hospitals and clinics in the state.
