BLAINE, Minn. – (April 12, 2023) – Leslie Larson has won Blaine’s special election for the vacant city council seat in Ward 2.
Larson received 881 votes (53 percent) and easily finished in front of Heidi Green, who wound up with 604 (36 percent). There was a total of six candidates running for the council spot. Larson replaces Julie Jeppson, who is now an Anoka County Commissioner.
Larson was ecstatic with the results.
“Very happy,” Larson said. “I worked really hard. I door knocked 2,800 homes, and delivered 15,000 brochures to each door step in the ward. Twice”
Larson gave credit to her mom and others, who called 2,800 voters on her behalf.
“It was a team effort and so much effort was made,” Larson said. “The results made our team very happy.”
“Positive energy”
Larson based her campaign on being pro family, pro job, pro law enforcement and pro infrastructure. Larson will take the oath of office on May 1 after election results are finalized.
“My immediate goal is to get acclimated, build positive relationships with the other council members and bring a positive energy to help move Blaine forward,” Larson said. “I know there’s a lot to learn and I hope that by building positive relationships and doing my homework, I can get up to speed quickly and get up to work for Blaine.”
Larson has been a Blaine resident for 15 years and runs a small business. Larson and her husband have five children and she graduated from St. Cloud State.
