“If your water tower stands out it helps your city,” said Chertong Her of Blaine.
Water tower number two on Paul Parkway in Blaine is a signature structure.
“Lived in Blaine pretty much my entire life,” said Dan Dinh. “Grew up looking at this water tower.”
The tower – one of four in the city – received a makeover this summer. It now has a completely new look with better curb appeal than what it had in the spring.
“It looks great now compared to what it looked like before,” Her said. “We love it. It looks fantastic and we couldn’t be happier with it.”
“It looks beautiful,” said Jasmine Knapper of Ham Lake. “When I was passing by I was like it looks so different.”
“A makeover makes it look a lot nicer,” Dinh said. “It’s pretty reflective of what Blaine’s going through right now.”
Colorful changes
The tab for the spruced up water tower cost $1.2 million. Clearly painted at the top is Blaine’s name, logo and website. The structure is even more visible now because of colorful changes and legible lettering.
“It really livens up the place,” Her said. “Not that the old one was kind of an eyesore, but you could tell the color was really going on the old one. A fresh coat of paint looks really nice on it.”
“They did a good job,” Dinh said. “Seems like they’ve been working on it for a bit.”
“It’s a seven out of 10,” Knapper said. “I love the different colors.”
From the air or the ground, Blaine’s tower facelift is apparent and for some residents in the area it’s now a gigantic compass.
“This is going to be my new landmark,” Dinh said. “Drive down the street and like, oh five minutes away.”
Each tower in Blaine stores one million gallons of water with the exception of the one on Lexington and 125th Avenue – that one that holds 2 million gallons of h2o.
