“Most solar energy is produced when there is lower demand and the price is lower. We will discharge stored solar energy during peak hours when energy costs are the highest.”
According to the company, the Ramsey site uses nearly 14,000 Canadian Solar panels over 18 acres and can currently output 3.4 megawatts. The Athens site uses more than 27,000 JA Solar panels over 36 acres to put out 6.6 megawatts. Together the two sites already provide energy to close to 2,000 homes.
“Conexxus is leading the way among all the utilities in the northern U.S. and the midwestern U.S. on solar and storage,” said Michael Noble, CEO of Fresh Energy.
Connexus is the largest member-owned utility in Minnesota. It provides electricity to 132,000 homes and businesses across Anoka, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Sherburne, and Washington Counties.
