(COON RAPIDS) – The pandemic continues to widen disparities of all kinds among students of all ages.
A campus wide health survey showed that one in eight students at Anoka-Ramsey community college are running out of food. The college’s food shelf received a $5,000 grant from the Minnesota COVID Food Fund that will ensure that students have the resources they need to focus on their studies. Despite the majority of the campus being converted to online schooling, the food shelf stays open as a grab-and-go service to protect the health and safety of the students.
“This place is amazing, the passion that all of our faculty and staff have here as a whole as a team to really build up our students,” said the college’s development director Lindsey Schiller. “We want to see them be successful.”
This past fall, the food shelf has distributed over 300 bags of food and over 100 hygiene bags. With this new grant they will be able to help anywhere from 600-700 more students.
