(CENTERVILLE – Aug. 8, 2022) – The developer on a long-debated project that could re-shape downtown Centerville has backed out a year after it announced its plans to build on the site.
Centra Homes sent a letter to city leaders on July 29 requesting termination of its agreement to develop the Block 7 plot near the intersection of Centerville Road and Main Street.
The agreement to build townhome-style units was announced last summer after more than a year of contentious debate and feedback from residents about what the city wanted to go on the land, which is now a grass field.
Centra had agreed to buy the land for $1.
In the letter, a Centra official cites rising costs for getting the plot ready for construction and the rising costs of materials.
A city leader confirmed to North Metro TV that this means the process for approving a project for Block 7 will now have to start all over again.
